Accessories are a must in synthetic flow applications

OK — so you have your flow hardware — pump, coil or tubing, but what about cartridges, columns, fittings, valves, scavengers, resin catch-and-release resins. Where do you find the bits that actually make this useful when a transformation calls for it.

I mentioned Zaiput liquid separators before.

Kinesis also has several flow accessories or even simplified tubing and pumps, to make your own flow bench set-up. Take a look through their multi-line valves, PTFE tubing, back-pressure regulators, omini-fit valves, etc. One thing that I found particularly useful was their solid-phase reactor columns with in-line fittings for loading scavengers, resins, catalysts and the sort for expanding the capability of the hardware in place.

Of course, the flow vendors specialize in versions of their own accessories and modular attachments:

Vapourtec: Low temp Reactors,  Flow tubes, UV photochemical reactor, etc.

Syrris: Solid Phase Column Reactors, Cryo Controller for low temp chemistry, Tube Reactors

ThalesNano: CatCarts — catalyst cartridges inserts for multiple chemistries

Uniqsis: Accessory page with reactor tubes/columns, gas modules, mixing blocks, chillers

There are certainly additional options out there and some of this depends on the system in place or if you are starting to look at bringing the technology into your lab.

  1. As a beginner in the area, for the lab scale flow chemistry, I worked with the vapourect R-series. It was easy, simple, flexible to use and all the accessories you need come with it, columns, back-pressure regulators, omni fit valves etc..
